Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 2:00PM SAFC 3-3 Marly
Our old friends Bill and co brought their Marly team to Meudon on Sunday. More precisely, they brought nine of their team; the rest of the squad were held up in traffic and didn’t make it. As SAFC were thirteen, your correspondent and Ian Hellawell (were) volunteered to don the blue shirts (a bit itchy) of Marly. Shorn at a stroke of decades of experience, the SAC side were all at sea for most of the match. However, two fortunate goals later, SAC were two up. The first, a close range (not to say off-side) strike from Tariq and a looping header from James Grant. Marly’s young, mobile midfield sprang into action and it was 2-2 at half time. The second half started well for SAC. A badly cleared corner fell to James who stuck away his second of the match. Marly dominated the rest of the proceedings, hitting the woodwork on several occasions but could only score a single, equalizing goal. And SAC could and should have had the winner. Your correspondent tried to pull out of a challenge on Diego Meillassoux in the penalty area but the latter went sprawling and the referee blew for a spot kick. Following a rigorous exchange of views between Diego and James, it was finally the latter who ran up to the ball and….nearly sent it into the swimming pool. So it ended 3-3; a fair result for a well-fought match played in good spirit.
